Water temperature by season and by depth
Summer:
Surface temperature on diving sites reaches 13°C
Thickness of warm layer is 15–18m.
Temperature drops to between -1°C and +1°C with depth
Winter:
Surface temperature on diving sites reaches –0.5°C
Temperature drops to -2°C with depth
Depth and relief
Relief at diving sites is diverse. There are vertical walls as well as flat seabeds at depths of 14–15m.
Salinity
The salinity of the White Sea is 27.5–28 parts per thousand.
Sea currents
There are no strong currents on most diving sites. You can experience tidal currents (with a speed of 2–4m/sec) during special drift dives arranged in the vicinity of the Isle of Kuzov and the Strait of Velikaya Salma opposite to the Isle of Veliki.
Complexity level and recommended certification
As diving is performed in dry suits, a Dry Suit PADI Certificate and Advanced OWD PADI level are recommended. You need to have some experience of dry-suit diving.
