White Whales at the Arctic Circle (02.02.2007-02.02.2007)

As part of a joint project between the Arctic Circle Dive Centre and the Utrish Dolphinarium, owned by the A. N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution, part of the Russian Academy of Sciences, two male white whales (Delphinapterus leucas), Stepan and Filya, have been introduced to a natural habitat (a special enclosure divided from the open sea by a net), near to the Arctic Circle Dive Centre. On their first day there, the white whales got to know their new home and made friends with staff and visitors from the Dive Centre.
